About this course
Resistance training is a form of exercise that improves muscular strength and endurance. Resistance is any force that makes the movement harder to perform. Resistance can be provided by your body weight, gravity, bands, weighted bars, dumbbells, kettlebells or some exercise machines can also be used for resistance training.
No one form of resistance training is necessarily better than another. The best strength training programme is a combination of different methods to get the benefits from each. For example, lifting weights one day and using exercise machines the next. Or alternatively doing body weight exercises one day and taking a class that incorporates resistance bands or kettle bells on another day.
This course will give a brief overview of what resistance training is, describe some of the benefits of strength training and illustrates some basic examples of weight training from a wheelchair to get you started. The course will also look at the Muscoskeletal system and the different muscles that make up our bod.
