Thankas to the Western people newspaper for starting the discussion around disability and showing how the media can help increase awareness throughout society about the realities faced by disabled persons.
I have documented my struggles over the past six years since acquiring the spinal cord injury to find suitable accommodation that is not in a residential setting.

“While building regulations stipulate that new homes must be accessible to all visitors,it does not set out how to design homes that are suitable for people with disabilities to live in”.

Highlighting personal situations can reduce stereotypes, prejudices and harmful practices whilst promoting awareness of those with disabilities capabilities, contributions and requirements.

Making things wheelchair accessible is seen as an extra and a luxury but it is not an extra and it is not a luxury. It is a basic requirement and a human right for all.
