Inspired by recent training in Adapted Activities with Lecurer Katarzyna Kasia Mielniczuk, the BA in Outdoor Education students in GMIT Mayo ran two programmes; one in Aras Attracta and one at lovely Lough Lannagh, Castlebar. The students worked with Jarlath Mchale of Mayo Adventure Experience to create the special experience for those with disabilities.

Two people with disabilities partook in an activity session to see how adventure activities in the region can be provided to people of all abilities. The active session meant getting into wetsuits and out on the water with students from the GMIT Outdoor Ed program helping out also. .
Katarzyna Kasia Mielniczuk, is a lecturer keen to develop something more substantial going forward in the Mayo area in the line of sporting adventure activities for all.

Their aim was to run an activity and get honest feedback on how to improve it, what went right and what went right and how to develop better practice in conjunction with sports partnership Mayo.
This was one of the first of few attempts to create something to cater for the needs of people living with disabilities to get active and enjoy the great outdoors.
