Wheels are an essential part of everyday life as a wheelchair user.
Maintaining tire pressure once a week is a good idea.
Invest in a good pump!
I replace my wheels once a year and I would use them ALOT outdoors!!
Solid tires may be less maintenance but in my experience are too hard on frequent long distance outdoor use compared to air filled wheels.
I use spinergy wheels.
Although alittle more expensive to purchase, the difference a lighter wheel can make to your life is unbelievable and so benefical.
For active chair users they make the chair so much easier and lighter to push throughout the day!
Front casters are supplied by the HSE and should be changed every six months or as required.
Remove hair and dirt from front casters once a week from optimum performance.
Personally, I like smaller ones as you don’t feel every little stone and bump as much.

A smoother ride means less vibration and shock reaches the body, which can reduce muscle spasms and body fatigue. The patented use of fibre spokes has numerous benefits to the user. Fibre spokes act as a vibration and shock dampener, they are 25% more absorbent than steel. The spokes are also much lighter than steel spokes (1/2 the weight) helping reduce the overall chair weight. Fibre spokes are also much stronger than steel (3x as strong) which makes the wheel able to withstand higher stresses. Combined with the custom rim and hub, makes Spinergy the highest performing and most reliable wheel design on the market.
