It’s challenging to find fashionable clothes that make life easier when your a full-time wheelchair user. The daily struggle of dressing can be a nightmare to deal with when your range of motion is limited. If you are unable to weight bear and/or are challenged with lowered upper mobility due to paralysis, regular conventional clothing can be difficult to use.
Shirts, trousers, bras and skirts are available ready made for wheelchair users but in my experience are very expensive and overrated. it is possible to adapt your own clothing with afew easy tips.
Velcro dots can be used instead of buttons to fasten a shirts and blouses for less nimble fingers.
Inserting a zip into the centre-back seam of a jacket can make it easier to put on while you are seated.
Removing back pockets and studs of jeans make them comfortable to sit on for long periods.
Longer length trousers sit better
Loose fit across the shoulders and upper arms when self-propelling are more comfortable
